James and Starla Dean are a southern gospel group that organized in January 2010. The group consists of a husband and wife team, James and Starla Dean. They were married in June 2006. They make their home in Shelby, Ohio.
James and Starla formerly traveled with the nationally known southern gospel group, Kevin Spencer and Friends. James was a part of the group for thirteen years and Starla for four. However, their singing journey came to a close with Kevin when their daughter Adalyn was born in June 2010. Throughout their time with this ministry they witnessed the power of the Gospel in song as they saw lives changed for the glory of God. But the Lord wasn’t finished with them yet. He opened the door for them to start their own ministry as James and Starla Dean. The Lord led Kevin to help James and Starla with this new venture as he helps book and promote their new ministry.
James grew up in church and always loved to sing. He was saved at the age of fifteen and will tell you he has never regretted the decision to follow Christ. When the time came to decide what he would do with his life the opportunity to travel and sing with Kevin Spencer and Friends was offered. James knew this type of ministry was where his heart was. He enjoys meeting people and making new friends where ever they go. His heart is to help people find the Lord and those that know Him to bring encouragement and a blessing. When James is not traveling he works in the office of the Some Dawning Music Co., a company that includes recording, songwriting, publishing, promoting, and producing great southern gospel music.
Starla was blessed to be raised in a Christian home as well. At the age of twelve the Lord saved her and she knows that life is full because of His presence and love. Singing was always a part of her life growing up. Starla sang in her home church as well as local area churches with her twin sister. It was during this time she realized how the Lord could use a song to uplift and help people during difficult times. When the Lord crossed her path with James in 2001 she never imagined how He would bring them together and ultimately give them a life, family, and ministry together.
During their time with Kevin Spencer and Friends, they sang on top charting songs and appeared on GMT (Gospel Music Television). They were also allowed the opportunity to be a part of the Gaither Gospel Series appearing on DVDs such as Rock of Ages and Amazing Grace. While with Kevin their concerts took them to Canada, Honduras, and Grand Cayman Island as well as a majority of the fifty States.
James and Starla feel very blessed by the opportunity the Lord has given them to be able to minister together to people all across the United States and other countries. They pray that they will continue to be used by and for Him. May the songs they sing truly reach the hearts of people who need a special blessing.
